Thomas Arthur McCormack was born on 27th April 1883 in Napier. After an illness, he devoted himself to painting and is seen as one of New Zealand's first full time artists. His was not an easy road but he persevered. He was close friends with Nugent Welch with many joint exhibitions, he became a revered watercolourist and has been compared to Frances Hodgkins with his work in watercolour.
This a charming simple work titled "The Conductor".
He was awarded an OBE in 1956 for his services to art.
