Cedric Savage (1901-1969) was born in Christchurch. He studied under Archibald Nicholl and Sydney Lough Thompson, he trained as a carver and designer which helped him develop a fine sense of form, shape and contour. After World War 2, he moved to Nelson, painting as a full-time artist. In 1955 he travelled to Spain where he was given honorary citizenship.
He made a final visit to New Zealand in 1961 where he was a recipient of the Kelliher Art Award. This is a lovely artwork in his unique style of the Nelson region
His works are held at Te Papa, Christchurch Art Gallery and the Auckland Art Gallery
